Here is a quick work around for the problem of the Display control message "Windows cannot use the display settings you chose".
When the system is restarted or booted, follow the steps below to prevent the error message from displaying:
In the Display Properties window, select the Settings tab and then click on the Advanced button.
Uncheck the box titled "Show settings icon on task bar". Click on the Apply button and then on OK.
Now, windows will not show the error message for the display settings whenever the system is restarted or booted
